Digital Video Test Equipment as video content has migrated from analog to digital format, the delivery mechanism, for both old and new formats, has changed as communication networks move toward a packet-based infrastructure. So, in addition to new digital video test equipment compression streams entering the network-MPEG-2 and MPEG-4-there are new network protocols to implement and verify in order to guarantee the quality of service expected by video customers.
Since its begining 50 years ago, Leader Instruments has earned a worldwide reputation for designing and manufacturing some of the most reliable, practical and cost effective electronic, instruments available. The products were originally developed for production testing and servicing. These are applications in which ease-of-use and highest reliability are essential. By expanding into a broad line of industrial and video instruments. Leader was able to add to these fundamental qualities a cost-performance ratio unequalled in the industry.
Manufacturing quality is built in every step of the way. Only the finest parts are used for optimum reliability. At each production run, sub-assemblies are separately tested before they are integrated into the finished product. Then product is tested. Less than 1% all Leader products made are ever returned for warranty repair or adjustment.
More and more, Leader products - over 100 of them - are being specified for research, development, production and service applications in addition to over 100 instruments customized for production line applications.
Leader instruments offers waveform monitors, vector scopes, HMDI test equipment, 8VSB Signal generators for digital channels.

The LT 428 component digital sync generator is an economical, compact 1U half-rack solution. It is equipped with 3 independent black burst outputs, to facilitate system timing and synchronization of digital and analog systems. Genlock allows synchronization to NTSC or PAL video signals, black burst, and composite sync. Simultaneous test signal outputs are provided for component serial digital output conforming to SMPTE 259M and composite analog.
Test patterns, 24 total, include 10-bit color bars for FCC, SMPTE, EBU, 75%/100% full field and 75% red with colorbars. Other patterns include 10%/15%/20%/100% window, pluge, crosshatch, staircase 5/10 step, digital gray, check field, black, 100% white, 15kHz Bl/Wh, 75% red field. AES/EBU digital and analog audio 2-channel outputs are selectable. Word clock output is available at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. System setup is accomplished from a Windows PC via the RS-232C interface to set changes such as selection of NTSC or PAL, black burst and genlock timing, video output pattern, and audio frequency. Remote control software is supplied on a CD-ROM.

Leader LV5152
Multi-Format Analog Waveform Monitor |
The LV5152 provides waveform, vector and picture monitoring facilities for analog components in the major U.S. and European HDTV and EDTV systems that are considered of prime importance for production applications. Six U.S. systems and three European systems are covered and include 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i.
The unit accepts two sets of 3-wire analog inputs with provision for external reference. Waveform display may be in YPbPr form or GBR with overlaid, parade and timing (bowtie) presentations. Extensive menu-selected operations offer wide-ranging control over operating parameters and includes line select and precision cursor measurements of level, time and frequency. |
The preset system stores ten front-panel settings for instant (and remote) recall, and a new on-screen display reduces preset recalls to a single keystroke. The vector display and the conversion matrix from YPbPr to GBR complies with Y formulation given in SMPTE 274M, 296M, and RP-177.
Other features include a stereo phase amplitude plot (Lissajous pattern), and 3-component picture monitor output.

Auto Spot Killer
|
Model LV 8536C is capable of displaying a precise sound image that visually matches the human aural perception of sound directivity in surround-sound systems. Developed in collaboration with NHK, the Japanese National Broadcasting Company, the digital processor works out phase and amplitude aspects to display the sound image. Both L-Ctr-R-S (3-1) and L-Ctr-R-LS-RS (3-2) are accommodated as well as the 5.1 Dolby system. The unit accepts the latter in the form of 6-channel AES/EBU digital audio. A separate on-screen level indicator is employed for the low frequency woofer (0.1) channel.
In addition to the sound image, dedicated bargraph level indicators are provided. And six multi-Lissajous displays are available to show phase and polarity between pairs in the five channel group, this to spot polarity inversion in signal feeds at a glance. The unit accepts six channels of AES/EBU digital audio as well as five channels of analog audio in both balanced and unbalanced form. Peak or average response may be chosen, and an auto gain feature ensures optimum display. But fixed reference levels are menu selectable for both digital and analog inputs. A spot killer protects the CRT from extended no-signal operation.
